Macrolide-resistant phenotypes of invasive StreptococcuS pneumoniae isolates in serbia
Macrolide resistance in Streptococcus pneumoniae has emerged as an important worldwide problem over the past decade. The aim of this study was to investigate macrolide-resistant phenotypes and the antimicrobial susceptibility patterns of invasive pneumococci in Serbia. A total of 68 invasive pneumococcal strains, collected from 2009 to 2011, were sent from regional laboratories to the national ...
متن کاملPhenotypes and genotypes of macrolide-resistant streptococcus pneumoniae.
BACKGROUND Macrolide resistance in Streptococcus pneumoniae (S. pneumoniae) is a worldwide problem. AIMS The aim of this work was to analyze the phenotypes, genotypes, and clonal relatedness among macrolide-resistant S. pneumoniae strains isolated from various clinical specimens in our hospital. STUDY DESIGN Cross-sectional study. METHODS 80 non-duplicate S. pneumoniae strains were analyz...
متن کاملCorrelation of Serotypes and Genotypes of Macrolide-Resistant Streptococcus agalactiae
Despite the necessity for studies of group B streptococci (GBS), due to the increase in serious adult infections, the emergence of new serotypes, and the increased resistance to macrolide antibiotics, such studies have been limited in Korea. The primary purpose of the present study was to determine the frequency trends of GBS serotypes, including serotypes VI, VII, and VIII. The final objective...
متن کاملResistance phenotypes and genotypes of erythromycin-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae isolates in Beijing and Shenyang, China.
Of a total of 192 Streptococcus pneumoniae isolates, 149 (77.6%) were not susceptible to erythromycin. Of these 149 isolates, 117 (79.1%) contained the erm(B) gene, 16 (10.8%) contained the mef(A) gene, and 15 (10.1%) harbored both the erm(B) and mef(A) genes.
متن کاملMacrolide resistance determinants in erythromycin-resistant Streptococcus pneumoniae in Turkey.
To determine the major molecular mechanisms of macrolide resistance among Streptococcus pneumoniae isolates in Turkey, we examined a total of 151 isolates collected from different regions of Turkey. Overall, 40 (26.4%) isolates were resistant to erythromycin. The most common mechanism (38/40) was target site modification due to erm (B) genes. Only two isolates harbored the mef (A)/(E) efflux ge...
